I get banned by bots on Reddit all the time for stupid reasons. When I appeal, if I’m lucky enough to contact a human moderator, they just tell me to “follow the bot’s instructions.” But the bot’s instructions usually involve deleting the completely harmless or well-meaning comment I made. Fuck that.
Texan here. Winter used to be a nice break from our hot, humid, miserable summers. Now some years I don’t even need to wear a jacket. It’s just hot all year round now. I hate it.

To admit that other countries do better would be to violate the dogma of American exceptionalism. It would be to offend the fragile egos of the most brainlessly egotistical among us. And I guess ultimately they think their feelings matter more than their own wellbeing.

This excuse for worker exploitation has always baffled me. 1. The contract was signed under duress: “Take this shitty job or continue to be unemployed.” Consent made under duress is not consent. 2. It was agreed to under an extreme power asymmetry: If you refuse the job, your family will have to go hungry, but the company will easily find some other desperate soul to fill the position. 3. I haven’t even begun to touch on all the class, racial, ethnic, and gender discrimination that workers face.
There’s nothing even close to meaningful or fair negotiation under such conditions.

Yup. I unfortunately live among many of them, still proudly wearing their Trump hats and bumper stickers and waving the MAGA flag. I personally would be utterly embarrassed to do that at this point, but stupid people don’t tend to be very self-aware.

That’s the thing. It could be ANY city in the US. Car-dependent infrastructure kills local culture. It makes everywhere look like the same, ugly concrete jungle.
Yet no skills went into making this poster. No real artist. No real actors. No real plumbers. No real photographer. They say they care about skills but show that they don’t.
Charity is only necessary because corporations like McDonald’s exploit the working class. They pay us wages that are barely (or not) sufficient to keep us alive, then pocket the rest. All the billions the corporation makes is billions created by and stolen from the working class. Under a more equitable system based on mutual aid and in which the workers control the means of production, and own the fruits of their labor, charity as we know it would become unnecessary.
Socialism isn’t a bigger minimum wage. Socialism is when the workers control the means of production and own the fruits of their labor.
