Everybody is so worried about the environmental impact of LLMs…has anyone stopped to consider the etymological impact?

41·12 hours agoI mean yeah that’s one reason.
But the main reason was to be able to form militias to catch runaway slaves. They didn’t want the government interfering with their slave patrols.
Slaves and even freed black men were prohibited from carrying firearms by state law. Dread Scott v Sandford in 1857 even had SCOTUS chief justice saying that black men can’t be citizens because then they could have guns and that would be an unacceptable threat to public safety.
Madison (a Virginian) wrote the second amendment specifically to appeal to Southern states.
One of the primary goals Republicans (the ones that freed the slaves, not modern republicans) had for the 14th amendment was specifically to ensure black men could arm themselves to protect against persecution from ex-slavers in the south.

31·21 hours agoI think an underlying personality disorder is a prerequisite, sure.
But does that mean that even somewhat self-made billionaires did not always start with good intentions?
I think the Steves…Jobs and Woz…are a good pair to look at for the kind of example in talking about. They had equal opportunities. In an alternate universe, Jobs could have ended up like Woz. Or Woz could have ended up like Jobs.
There’s an underlying catalyst that gets triggered and fed and allowed to grow. It starts as an untreated personality disorder…you mix that with money/power and a circle of yes-men and that’s a recipe for disaster.

The rules apply to them, it’s just no one is enforcing them.
This is more like “a tree falls in the forest”.
If the rules aren’t enforced against them, then they absolutely do not apply to them.
This is a serious problem, when all three branches of government, are occupied by the trees. They need to be shown consequence, and it may have to be by hatchet, axe, and saw.
It’s cute that you think we will have elections in November, or that they will be free and fair.

3·22 hours agoMaybe they can’t be rehabilitated. Maybe they can. Idk. I’m not here to make that call. All I’m saying is that they make for very interesting case-study.
I don’t think you can get to any level of extreme wealth without some amount of personality disorders. Is this what happened when those personality disorders are left untreated, or worse, enabled?

101·22 hours agoThink less illness and more…idk…corruption of the mind?
Like we all know power corrupts people. But absolute power, extreme wealth? There’s gotta be an underlying spiral of mental health that allows these people to continue to function, and left unchecked leads to…well, extreme, unimaginable corruption.
I find it hard to believe a bunch of pedophiles became the richest and most powerful people in the world. I find it much easier to believe a bunch of the richest and most powerful people in the world became pedophiles.
Like, when all the other forbidden fruit are easy to get (and were all fucking awesome), and you don’t see others as people at all…there’s the most forbidden fruit.
All I’m really saying is, statistically, the odds of so many billionaires being pedophiles is very low…unless either closeted/repressed pedophilia is way more common than we think, or it can develop out of an array of personality disorders that can be amplified (and, importantly, enabled) by extreme wealth/power.
Psychologically, this is very interesting.

The rules apply to them? I’m yet to be shown otherwise.

These are your Friends on Epstein Island.
Any questions?
Note, I don’t think there’s any direct link between these two and Epstein. There is with Gates tho. And Perry died of a ketamine overdose.
It’s also useful to think of the “ground” plane as a sort of well of potential charger carriers
I…think I understand ground loops (audio) now.

Eventually the AI bubble will burst though.
Super. Thanks for asking.

This is honestly the first I’d thought about it…but language has always been dynamic and organic. Rapid communication has already led to rapid evolution of language and distribution of slang.
Then you get LLMs slurping up all this content and condensing it and adding their own language into the pile.
Eventually the majority of what they intake will be the output of all the other LLMs, and then it’s a feedback loop.
