Linux@programming.dev•Steam Frame and Steam Machine will be another good boost for Flatpaks and desktop Linux overall too
33·25 days agoAnything over 600 is dead on arrival IMO.
In that case it would be valve having learned nothing from the failure of the previous steam machines largely owing to obscene pricing.

Gaming@lemmy.zip•Nintendo 3DS prices skyrocket up to 76% — vintage Nintendo console rivals the cost of a brand new Switch 2English
4·1 month agoStill using my release edition 3DS here (modded to hell lol).
I think a big part of the popularity is the portability. The whole folding family of devices from Nintendo naturally needs no case (the screen is protected), and it fits easily in pockets where the switch 1/2 doesn’t. Also it has a huge library of games that you can get for “”free””).
As for the more recent popularity, I think with how much Nintendo is jacking up the price of the switch2 and games, of course some people will look to older hardware, especially if they never experienced it when it was new. I’ve been a diehard Nintendo guy since the GBC and N64, but I’m skipping the switch 2.

3·2 months agoIt’s a little nonsense, but “the mayor” could be some title that a mob boss or whatever chose for himself, like some kind of spiderman-esque kingpin guy.
Some real “Look at me, I’m da mayor now.” energy after the actual government failed.

Climate@slrpnk.net•EU to ‘push back petrol car sales ban to 2040’25·2 months agoAbsolutely pathetic by EU leadership. We’re still 10 years away, with plenty of time for them to retool their factories, and come out with new models, and they’re already giving up (“””pushing the date back””” lol).
For zigbee dongles, take a look at the SLZB-06. I used a sonoff usb dongle at first (which was fine), but then switched to the slzb which works nicer and lets you run it independently from your home assistant machine over Ethernet (you can still use usb if you like though).
I have like 50 ikea zigbee lights running off mine (plus the same amount of other zigbee stuff) and it works super stable with zigbee2mqtt.

Technology@lemmy.world•RAM is so expensive that stores are selling it at market pricesEnglish
15·2 months agoDdr4 is apparently out of manufacturing at a lot of places now, so it’s even more affected (at least in my market, prices rose more then ddr5)
It maintains the same temp, even when hot water temp or pressure is changing
I can’t speak for everyone but here’s what mine like like:

Love Peanuts, can’t believe I’ve never seen this original strip before.
Thanks for posting!

Home Video (VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, 4k)@feddit.uk•The 5 Most Controversial 4K transfers of all time
2·5 months agoI just watched True Lies in 4K and felt the transfer was phenomenal. These cheesy action movies don’t need the preserved grain or whatever, and I’d say it definitely felt true to the original experience that Cameron wanted to create.

Global News@lemmy.zip•Japan to impose 12,000 yen fine for using smartphones while cycling under new ruleEnglish
6·5 months agoI believe these would be fine, as being able to stop the rear wheel via the chain is a kind of braking device.
Also, don’t most fixies have a small front brake anyways? I don’t see many fixed gears in Tokyo (probably due to the hills), but there was a ton of them back in canada where the front brake seemed common-ish.
Gorgeous photo, nice shot.

3·7 months agoFor me, the ability to move your taskbar to the sides of the screen. I use an ultrawide, and have plenty of horizontal space to spare, but very little vertical.
It’s a ridiculous regression, that only exists because MS engineers are too lazy to figure out how to put all their new taskbar junk like copilot, weather, news, etc. in a vertical setting.

Technology@lemmy.zip•Synology requires self-branded drives for some consumer NAS systems, drops full functionality and support for third-party HDDsEnglish
7·10 months agoI loved synology, this is such a punch in the gut. After I adopted them myself like 10ish years ago, I converted my dad, and two seperate friends to pick one up too. Never going back now.
Characters from resident evil video game. At least in RE4, you play as Leon and there’s a mysterious woman in a red dress who drops in occasionally to mess with you.
Apparently she keeps taking care of herself afterwards, but Leon winds up as a bum lol.
Kind of similar to Ash in Pokémon who remains a kid, when Misty becomes an adult and moves on with her life but in reverse.
